The history of Peter and Paul Fortress begins in 1703, at this year it was conferred by the order of Peter I, who personally chose the site for construction of the fortress.
He chose an island with an unusual name "Zayachy", which was located at the mouth of the Neva River. The designer of Peter and Paul Fortress was the French engineer and architect - Joseph Gaspard Lambert de Guerin.
The fortress consists of six bastions, which are named in honor of Peter I followers.
Also In XVIII-XIX there were built a lot of structures for various purposes.

During the tour you’ll see:

  • Peter and Paul Cathedral (here you’ll see a very beautiful Imperial Crypt). The famous Mint (one of the oldest attractions of St. Petersburg, which is still working).
  • Trubetskoy Bastion prison (you’ll see the prison ward, listen the history, learn about the prisoners and their prison lifestyle)
  • Artillery armory (here stored equipment and weapons)

Peter and Paul Fortress filled with fascinating places and stories. Here you will find a variety of Special structures, see the museum of Trubetskoy bastion prison, printing (where you can print an engraving on an old technology), mint, and Paul Cathedral, the museum of astronautics and rocketry.

Also you will have an opportunity to climb onto the roof, where you can capture the Nevsky panorama.
