Home house of N.E. Zhukovsky

We would like you to visit a unique monument of culture, art and architecture of the XVIII - XIX centuries. The home house of N.E. Zhukovsky – the "father" of Russian aviation, in Orehovo village (Vladimir region). It was established in 1937, in the house where N.E.Zhukovsky – the genius of theoretical, experimental and practical aerodynamics – was born. He spent his childhood there and he continued enjoying going there during his entire life.

Once you arrive in Orehovo, you will immediately be transferred to a unique and attractive world of an older Russian noble’s estate, with an atmosphere all of its own. Fortunately, the house and park are preserved exactly as they were during the 18th and 19th centuries. After your walk in the shady lanes you may rest a while beneath ancient trees.

You should see the old Sun dial – a rare monument of history, astronomy and culture of the 18th century. It was installed in 1786, but even in the early of 20th century, Zhykovsky used it to check the time.

This house was the center of public, cultural and scientific life for fifty years, a place where famous scientists liked to meet and discuss new scientific issues. In 1919, Zhykovsky' students Stechkin and Egorov flew by plane to the estate. The villagers from 15 villages came to see the "flying iron bird".

This memorable house will tell you not only about life of famous Russian scientist Zhykovsky but also show Russian society’s life-style of the 18th & 19th centuries.
